This summer, I started a personal photography project driven by a simple realization: as creative adults, we can revisit the playful spirit of summer vacation in our minds. This project was a reminder that life isn’t just about daily routines or endless tasks- it’s about feeling truly alive.

My goal was clear: capture the essence of summer as vividly as possible. Inspired by the nostalgia of childhood memories- when colors seemed brighter and everyday objects appeared fascinating- I chose ordinary subjects, from sunlit trees and winding pathways to weathered buildings and vibrant fabrics. Driven purely by curiosity and the urge to reconnect with the world around me, I sought out moments that felt dreamlike and intensely colorful, highlighting the unique vibrancy of the cold Estonian summer.

The Ricoh GR IIIx proved to be the perfect companion for this creative journey. I specifically chose the GR IIIx for its compact stealthiness and longer 40mm lens, which provided a refreshing break from the familiar view of my iPhone. The increase in focal length provided just enough isolation to elevate each frame, allowing for a deeper emotional connection with my subjects.

One outstanding feature of the Ricoh GR IIIx is its exceptional straight-out-of-camera colors and white balance. Having tested various cameras, I must say that only the Hasselblad X1D and the GR IIIx consistently delivered similarly beautiful and accurate tones without extra tweaking. It’s quick to power on, making spontaneous captures, especially during cycling trips, an absolute joy. My only minor gripe: the absence of weather sealing around the frontal lens elements.

This camera has seamlessly integrated into my daily life, becoming an indispensable tool not only for documenting my personal experiences but for reigniting a deep appreciation for the smaller, vivid details of summer.

All shots here are SOOC JPEGs that I edited using RNI for vibrant colors. Other minor tweaks are made in Snapseed.
